CHIBA — A man in Kimitsu, Chiba Prefecture, clung onto the roof of a moving car for 2.5 kilometers to apprehend a thief who stole his wife’s underwear, police said Monday.
According to police, the 32-year-old husband tied a fishing line and two bells to his wife’s underwear to discover who had been stealing it from their balcony, Fuji TV reported. When the alleged thief returned at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, the woman’s husband chased him outside and jumped onto the roof of his car. The suspect, who has been identified as 53-year-old Hiroshi Ishikawa, attempted to flee the scene and drove 2.5 kilometers with the man clinging to his roof.
Police said the man sustained a minor injury to his leg after he fell off the car roof, following which he immediately reported the incident to the police with a description of the car and license plate.
Police said they have arrested Ishikawa on a robbery charge. During questioning, Ishikawa was quoted by police as saying he kept driving because he was scared.
